This page provide information and links about Lummi Island homes. My perspective is broad, encompassing not just people-oriented structures , but the homes of all islanders, be they fish or fowl or plant or human. I’m serious about this. I think that understanding (and loving) the inter-connectedness of all our dwellings is a big part of living the good life on Lummi Island. Real Lummi Island homes are much more than mere Lummi Island real estate, lodgings, vacation rentals or getaways.
All of Lummi Island’s residents need homes that keep them reasonably safe from harm. The island’s bird residents need homes. So do the island’s mammals, insects and spiders, amphibians and reptiles. Trees shrubs, sedges, moss and flowers need homes. The sea creatures in the marine waters that separate our island from the mainland need homes. I like to keep in mind that all these non-human islanders lived here long before people showed up, even ‘native’ Americans.
Click to the People Home Resource page for some ways to help your home be truly ‘island friendly’. For links on how to create pr improve homes for you wildlife neighbors, see the Homes for Wildlife page.
The web of human and non-human homes on Lummi Island forms the network of our lives. For me and many others, the Lummi Island home is about much, much more than just real estate and its alleged monetary value. Home is about the unique quality of our lives as part of Lummi Island, not apart from it. Living the good island life is tied to how well we steward the land and homes of our plant, animal and human neighbors so that all can live their good lives.
If you find some link, book, video, etc. you think I should add, please send it to me in the ‘reply’ box.
